The Jackalope is one of North America's most iconic cryptids, described as being creatures with the body of a jackrabbit and the antlers of a deer or antelope.
While very recognizable, the Jackalope is far from the only horned rabbit from folklore, such as the one horned rabbit of Persian legends, or the Wolpertinger of Bavaria.
According to Wyoming taxidermist, Ralph Herrick, his brother Doug, started the Jackalope legend when he mounted a jackrabbit head with deer antlers in 1934. Ever since then, stories and folklore about Jackalope have emerged. Examples include; the Jackalope's favorite drink is whiskey, they're only able to mate during lightning strikes, and that female Jackalope produce really sweet milk. However, there are some theories of the Jackalope that are more based in reality, one being, the idea that rabbits suffering from the Shope Papilloma virus gave rise to stories about horned rabbits due to the hornlike growths that appear on infected rabbits.
For my version of the Jackalope, I wanted to incorporate kmore of the antelope appearance into the creature, I did this by using the coat pattern found on American Antelope.
